About Us

Garfield Township Fire Department is a volunteer fire department. We consist of 12 dedicated men and women and respond  to all types of fires. Our township consists of 108 square miles, and we also have a contact to protect 10 square miles of another township. Much of the land in our township is state owned land, and we have one of the only habitats in the world for the endangered Kirkland Warbler. Much of the township is pine forest. We have 4 brush rigs, 1 class A pumper, 1 tanker pumper, 1 heavy rescue, and 1 water supply truck. We have mutual aid agreements with fire departments in our county and 2 others. We also work  with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources fighting wildland fires. We run our heavy rescue with state of the art extrication equipment. M-66 is a major highway that runs through the western section of our township and Camp Grayling, home of the Michigan National Guard stands at the eastern edge of our township.
Garfield Township is a sportsman's paradise with hunting, camping, canoeing, snowmobiling and trophy trout fishing on the beautiful Manistee River.  Our year round population is only about 800, but we have many seasonal residents.
